My Production Reflection

My Reflection on our Production Item

What is the storyline of our Production?
Room 5’s segment in the school production is a story about a Maori Legend Rangi Sky Father and Papa Earth Mother. They decided to send their four sons to look at the new Earth. Aoraki (Latham), Rakiroa (Creedence), Rakirua (Cyprus) and Rarakiroa (Thomas) came to Rangi. They went in a waka to explore the world. They  sailed day and night in the waka. Aoraki was pushed onto one of the rocks by the wind. The brothers sat and sat. The canoe turned into a long piece of land. The turned old, their hair turned from black to white, and their bodies turned into great stone mountains. Aoraki became the highest mountain and his brothers became smaller mountains around him.

Who are the  actors and Who are the backstage hands who makes the props and puts things on stage?
The main characters in Room 5’s Production is the Narrator (Angel), Hine Nui I te Po (Fine), Rangi Sky Father (Halaiano), Papa Earth Mother (Lavinia), Tuterakiwhano (Patrick) and Aoraki and his three brothers. The role that I play is the Mokopuna with Caitlin, OhS’mar and Jasmine. When we act in the production we have to sail with Tuterakiwhano (Patrick) and we stop sailing we have to tell Tuterakiwhano what to plant and where to plant the things. The main teachers who helped make the props were Miss Paton, Mrs Kelly, Miss Nichol and Miss Ema. The main students that helped were all of the students from Room 5. Also when were acting the props are sometimes on the stage or some people wear their own costumes.

What role is Room 5 taking in the school Production?
In the school production our Performance is about the Southern Alps. Our production is basically about Aoraki and his three brothers that explores the world before it finishes.

What props need to be made/completed?
The props that need to be made and done is Hine Nui I Te Po’s (Fine) cape. Also the main thing that needs to be finished is Tuterakiwhano and the Mokopuna waka, also Papa Earth Mother’s (Lavinia) head band and Tuterakiwhano’s (Patrick) head band needs to be done/finished. I also think that the Te Namu’s (Yvette) wings should be done for the production.

How are you making the costumes and other props and are you working alone or as a team? Also what are the costumes made out of?
When we make our costumes we make them out of cardboard and some costumes are made out of plastic. Also when props are made they are made out of paper or some are sticked onto wood like tussock grass, rocks, flaxes and sea creatures. After we finish making the props we add staplers to make it stick together and when we create mountains we use elastic to make it hold everything together. When we make props we work together as a team so when Miss Paton tells us to do the waka for Tuterakiwhano (Patrick) and his Mokopuna we have like 5 - 6 people work together but when its not a hard job to do like paint the tussock grass we do it individually.

Do people who are learning their lines need more practice or are they making good progress?
I think that the actors who have speaking parts don’t need to have anymore practice because every time when we have practice the speakers get better and better, also they get louder and louder.

Are actors using both their voices and bodies to use expression?
When a lot of actors speak in our Room 5 production some people just face the actors and not the audience so I think that it is time for people to face the audience. I also think that when the actors face the audience they should use actions as well. When the actors speak sometimes they don’t use expression, but when Room 5 practises more the speakers like Rangi Sky Father (Halaiano) and the Narrator (Angel) thy get louder and louder all the time.

What needs to be improved?
In our Room 5 production I think that some actors should speak a bit louder because if some parents are right at the back they might not be able to hear you. I also think that when the actors speak they should face the audience and do some actions while they're talking to.

Production Goals

How to move from an OK performance to a Very Good Performance Move from being ZERO to HERO

* Talk slower - EVERYONE
* Look at the audience when we are speaking and acting out our parts
* Use more expression

* Know the timing off by heart
* Talk louder - Fine, Angel,
* Be confident don’t be shy
* When you hear your cue- act on it.
* Look not laugh when someone makes a mistake
Don’t giggle when someone is acting.
* Bodies facing audience, but also looking at the actor beside you - include your audience
* Don’t get distracted when you’re back stage
* Use some actions when you’re talking
* Get ready back stage
* Spread out those who are flowers, mountains, fish,
* Don’t let your class down
* Put lots of effort into the class performance
* Take your role seriously
* Leave other people alone
