My Volcano Report

Our Volcano Report
By Samantha

A volcano is an opening in the Earth’ s surface. Did you know that the word volcano originally comes from the greek myth, The God of fire, Vulcan.

An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mud flows and rockfalls.Fiery mountains are places where magma has reached the surface and new rock is created. When Tectonic plates move it causes eruptions.

Mount Edgecumbe

Its English name was given by Captain James Cook on 2nd November 1769 after Sergeant Edgecombe who was the sergeant of marines on his vessel. The mountain rises to 820 m above sea level.Located 50 km east of Rotorua and three kilometres east of Kawerau.

Hi Samantha,
Your volcano report is perfect. I have learnt a lot about volcanoes already just by reading your volcano report. Keep up the great work, Samantha.
