Changing Of The Flag
All the pupils in Panmure Bridge School voted for which ever flag they liked best, in the options above. We had 4 minutes to read each flag's meaning behind it independently, 3 minutes to get with a partner and talk about your reasons for why you like the flag you're going to chose, 2 minutes to find a new buddy and talk with them about it, and then 1 minute to find a group of 4 to discuss your own perspectives on each flag. We did this because we work better together. 3 of the people in our group chose the last flag in the picture, for reasons such as: I made personal connections to it, It represents multiple cultures and also because it is instantly recognized as New Zealand's. 2 of the people in our group chose the first flag for reasons such as: I liked the design and because it's easily recognized as ours due to the Silver Fern. Although they are very alike, we still had reasons for choosing the other flag. The 3 of who chose the red flag, liked it because it represented blood, yet some of us chose the black flag because it represents our history and the night

My Speech
Good afternoon students and teachers. Just think about a time where you have been bullied for what you look like, what you believe in and who you are? Doesn’t it hurt thinking about a time you were bullied? Thinking that there was no one to help you.
Take a look around you. Is there someone different from you? Well of course! Everyone is different. Not one person in this room looks the same as you. So tell me, why are people bullied because of their appearance, because of their beliefs and religions, because of being different?
Race is apart of who we are. Tease me about the things I can change. Mock me about the colour of my hair, or the way my teeth aren’t aligned. Don’t tease me for what I can’t change. Don’t mock me for the colour of the skin or the race I descend from.
Why do we think we have the authority to mock someone if they’re a different race? We were born to be real not to be perfect. So why should you choose to rule our life? Why is that we feel uncomfortable in a room full of unfamiliar faces?
Why do we bully? We were born the way we are. Racial Bullying is just wrong! Being unique is okay. What’s wrong with that? So why judge someone for being themselves? For being an individual? We must learn to find the similarities not the differences. We should be able to express who we really are without being cautious. We need to stand up to bullying, we need to end this! Racial bullying is never the answer.

Direct Speech
“Hey Sam, What do you think about New Zealand providing breakfast in schools?” Fine asked.
Samantha replied “ I think it’s a really good idea! Hopefully now some students will won’t go starving without anyone knowing.”
“Why do you think that?” Fine asked.
“Well, How would you feel if you went to school starving? How would you feel if you were completely switched off from learning and no one understood why?” wondered Samantha
“WOW! I never thought of it like that. I feel so guilty and sad for those who are suffering.” cried Fine
Samantha responded “Exactly. I don’t understand why the government hasn’t already seen this problem. I don’t understand why they’re still debating over this. I don’t understand how they can not see that these children are the future of our country, and feeding them will improve their knowledge and education.”
This is debate about New Zealand providing breakfast in schools. It shows that we should have breakfast in schools to keep kids focused on there learning.

Maori Battalions Timeline
This term our topic is 'Lest we Forget' so in Room 5 we are learning about the Maori Pioneer Battalions. I did this timeline collaboratively in partners with Fine. This is a timeline that shows in time order what happened during WW1 involving the Maori soldiers.
Maori Battalions Letter
Dear whomever this may concern,
On behalf of all iwi from Waikato and Taranaki, I wish to inform you of our thoughts about the Maori Contingent, because I feel you do not understand our reasons for not having the will to join your war. We will NOT fight another man's war and risk our lives for another man’s faults. How dare you think we should take part in this war, when you have seized the ability to grow our own food!? Imagine working in the farms, all week long and still knowing you won’t be able to provide a stable diet for your children. Now imagine that the people who caused this problem, asking for your help? The first thought you have into your mind is revenge. May I add, that after all of this damage you have caused to our iwi, you have decided to send our sons to prison! Do you think this will make us want to come and fight for you anymore than we did 50 years ago? Exactly. I hope you are able to understand why we don’t want to sacrifice any lives for you and your kind.
Yours Sincerely,
All iwi o Waikato and Taranaki.
In Room 5 we are learning about the Maori Pioneer Battalions. This is a letter to the editor saying why we do not want to go to WW1. I worked collaboratively with Fine to complete this task.

Maori Pioneer Paragraph
“Haere e tama ma. Haere me te whakaaro ki te pupuri i te rongo toa a o tatou tipuna. Kia wehi ki whakaaro ki te pupuri i te rongo toa a o tatou tipuna. Kia wehi ki te Atua. Whakahonoretia te kingi”
“Farewell, young men. Go and uphold the name of our warrior ancestors. Fear God. And honour the king.”
Our heads were bowed as our whanau recited those words. The pride had caused such a sudden rush through my blood, I could not hold the tears back. For those words had affected me hugely because I knew for a fact that all my brothers here, together as one, would use those words as a motivation to fight for our freedom of our whanau, and to give all that we had into it. I feel the strength of my whanau giving me more hope and confidence, trusting me with all their might to represent our iwi.
This is a paragraph based around the Maori Soldiers from Waikato and Taranaki. In this paragraph we had to talk about how we felt while leaving our family through the eyes of a Maori Soldier.

Retel of Camp
A Leap of Faith
I put my feet on the ladder, step by step becoming even more nervous. All my trust is within the rope. I pass the ladder and climb, one foot after another, onto the metal rungs. I feel my heart racing, as if I was being chased by a cheetah. I climb and climb, until I reached the beam. I hear my friends screaming and yelling “You can do it Samantha!”. I took a Leap of Faith. I wobble and shake as I put my feet onto the beam. Thank Goodness that was over, but I had the whole beam to walk along. I walk step by step across the beam. I reach a quarter of the way, I realise I still have another 3 quarters to walk along, so I inhaled a deep breath. As I walk along, I see the beautiful view of Hunua Ranges staring right at me. I feel even more pressured as I look down at my friends, encouraging me to keep going. I stop for a second and wait, then I carry on. I could feel my heart pounding as I realise I was nearly at the end of the beam. I took one last step and finally, I had made it but I still had to walk back, so I stood next to the pole for 10 seconds with fear. I start to walk along the beam again. I could feel my life on the line, but I knew that I had trustworthy people to look after me so I knew I was in safe hands. I look down for the last time and I saw that no one was paying attention, but the people who were taking control of the rope. Finally, I was being lowered. While being lowered, I get a photo taken of me as if I was an Angel. I got unhooked from the harness. I felt relieved that it was over, but proud that I had the courage to climb the high beam and also overcome my fear of heights.
This is a 5 minute snapshot about one of the activities I did at camp. It retells one of my favourite events that happened at camp.
Fast Factors
Today I was practising 6 times tables. I played the game 'Fast Factors'. Each time I tried to beat me previous time. As you can see my best time was 25 seconds.

MIT Group Waitangi Recount
Maori:
Tiriti o Waitangi has caused oh so many problems and meetings. Thankfully, the gods have allowed us all to agree to sign the treaty. All the chiefs went into a Tape Nakara and waited for hours until they were called upon to sign it, and for some those hours were many.
I could feel the prickly grass brush against my feet as I walked towards the British missionary. I felt nervous because I have never done something like this in my life before. I glanced down at the treaty, confused at what I had to do. Like many, I had never signed my name before. My heart was racing. There was another paper next to it with words I didn’t understand on it.
I could feel the adrenaline kick in, I picked up the feather and I wrote. The atmosphere was dead silent, all the sweat alone produced by me, would be able to water the crops around my village.
I placed the feather on the table. My signature was officially permanent on the Tiriti o Waitangi. I turned around and walked back to where my tribe had been standing stifling in this heat. I noticed everyone silently searching for the breeze.
The temperature in this Tape Nakara was AUE too hot and the strong scents of nature filled the air. I’m surrounded by odors that have created a stench so strong, I found myself joining the silent search for that breeze.
The wait felt like forever. When I finally walked out of the Tape Nakara with pride and realised I had never felt so much jubilation.
British:
The process of gathering the many signatures required to complete the Treaty of Waitangi had begun earlier this morning. As missionaries, we had fulfilled our quest to our Queen. Just another few weeks in this uncooperative weather, and we’ll be gone. Hooray!
I sat there waiting for the Maori Chiefs to sign the treaty. My bottom so numb from all that sitting. This was a long slow drawn out process.
Everybody waited as signature after signature was placed. As time elapsed, facial expressions inside this confined space, changed from ones of elation, to those of nausea due to the horrendous stench of body odour that surrounded us.
The temperature had risen quickly. Perspiration started to become noticeable on all of us inside the white tent. I positioned myself near the entrance of the tent so the outside breeze could cool me down. Luckily I didn’t have to witness the signatures so I was able to move towards the door. I felt sorry for the other men and women who had a much more important role to play today.
As the last person placed their signature, everyone appeared satisfied with the outcome that the Treaty of Waitangi had come to a resolution.
This is a recount of the Treaty of Waitangi. I was in Mrs Anderson's special group and she set this task for her special group only. I did this collaboratively in a group with Fine, Sajiha, Sebastian, Yvette and Tim. There a 2 different point of views. One is from the Maori side and one is from the British side.
Comparison Poster
This is a digital drawing that me and Mere from room 6 did together collaboratively. It shows 2 graphs of how many people speak a different language at home other than English. Room6 has more different spoken languages at home than Room 5 does.
